Brotherly Battle at Wrestlemania 25
At the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, Jeff and Matt Hardy will battle each other in the squared circle, looking to settle a personal issue that is making their common blood boil down to the core. (WATCH)
They will settle their differences in an Extreme Rules Match, featuring no disqualifications and no count-outs.
Matt Hardy’s actions in the past few weeks – slapping Jeff in the face after his brother refused to fight him, costing Jeff his chance at WrestleMania’s Money in the Bank Match and finally alluding to the fact he may have been behind Jeff’s recent, terrible “accidents” – are only a smaller part of a larger problem that has been building for some time.
Matt and Jeff Hardy came up in WWE when they were still teenagers. And through the years, there has always been a subtle whisper in the wind, a hint of friction accompanying their success. Perhaps the elder Matt Hardy was forced to pick up the slack for his free-spirited, “irresponsible” younger brother time and time again. And, as the two Superstars grew in the business, Matt would later say that this arrangement would consistently be a thorn in his side.
While Matt Hardy was forced to leave WWE due to injury, Jeff got himself suspended for destructive reasons of his own making. Jeff’s misfortune continued when his house burned to the ground. However, upon returning, both brothers’ fortunes immediately started to change. Matt won the ECW Championship and promised to be a fighting champion, tenaciously taking on all comers. Jeff Hardy worked through his problems and came back determined to be a World Champion, overcoming numerous obstacles in pursuit of that goal.
Then, several months ago, just one day before Jeff was set the make his attempt at the WWE Championship, the Charismatic Enigma was mysteriously attacked in a stairwell of his hotel. This ignited a series of unfortunate circumstances that included a hit and run “accident” and a pyrotechnics “accident,” both of which left their mark on Jeff.
Something didn’t add up about these instances and though many were suspected, for the time being, the culprit would remain a mystery. Although it was not known at the time, the dye had already been cast on the future of the Hardys.
Jeff Hardy continued to overcome his demons and at Armageddon, as he finally captured the WWE Championship. Both Hardys carried gold in what should have been a perfect realization of a family dream.
But, at the Royal Rumble, the fuse was lit that would instantly bring family disorder. After losing the ECW Championship to Jack Swagger weeks before, Matt Hardy lost his rematch for the Extreme gold. Then, later that night, when it looked like he was coming to the ring to help deal with SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero’s interference in his brother’s match, Matt stunned the WWE Universe by hitting Jeff with a steel chair, allowing Edge to get the three-count and in one instant, take away Jeff Hardy’s dream.
Matt Hardy may have opened a wound that can never be closed. And now that Jeff has agreed to face his estranged brother at WrestleMania, it remains to be seen whether Houston’s Reliant Station is reinforced enough to contain the firestorm that will be unleashed.
Don’t miss the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania April 5 at 7:00 pm only on pay-per-view.

Extreme Rules Match
The Brian Kendrick vs. Jeff Hardy
The referee calls for the bell and Hardy immediately dropkicks Jackson out of the ring! The Kendrick quickly capitalizes with some punches and forearms, but Hardy forces him hard into the corner! Hardy then dropkicks Ezekiel off the apron again and throws The Kendrick out of the ring! Hardy then vaults over the top rope on top of Big Zeke!!
The Kendrick begs Hardy off until he gets pulled off by Ezekiel and thrown HARD into the barricade! That looked painful! Ezekiel now checks on The Kendrick and Hardy attacks him while his back is turned with a chair, hitting him six times on the back, collapsing him to the floor!! Hardy now looks wildly at The Kendrick, who runs away!
The Kendrick gets in the ring followed by Hardy. The Kendrick kicks Hardy in the midsection and hits a beautiful jumping heel kick to the face! The Kendrick grounds and pounds Hardy before bouncing his head off the top turnbuckle. The Kendrick grabs the chair but Hardy approaches him and The Kendrick loses the chair shoving Hardy face first into the second turnbuckle. The Kendrick sizes Hardy up across the ring and charges but Hardy moves and The Kendrick crashes hard in the corner!
Hardy exits the ring and gets the chair. Hardy comes in and throws the chair at The Kendrick, a la Sabu! Hardy opens the chair up and goes across the ring. He charges, using the chair to hit Poetry in Motion!! Hardy bounces The Kendrick’s face off the open chair a whole bunch of times and then hits The Kendrick with the alley-oop!! Hardy now sets the chair up, kicks The Kendrick in the midsection, and this a Twist of Fate on the open chair!! Hardy turns The Kendrick’s lifeless body over and goes to the top rope, hitting the Swanton Bomb!! Hardy picks up the easy win!!

Matt Hardy now makes his way to the ring to a chorus of boos. He gets in the ring and says as we all know the black cloud continues to loom over Jeff Hardy’s head, and will continue to do so until he sucks it up, becomes a man, and decides to fight him! Matt says he came out tonight to get things off his chest – some things he tried to communicate to Jeff Hardy but, of course, he didn’t listen. Tonight he’s going to FORCE him to listen!
Matt mentions that Jeff went through a lot this past year. A lot of ups, downs – highs, and lows. He couldn’t compete last year at WrestleMania because he was suspended because he was out having a little too much fun. As for him he couldn’t compete at WrestleMania because he was injured – he had a LEGITIMATE injury. However since day one of Jeff’s suspension no one cared about Matt. “No one gave a damn about ME or my injury!” Everyone wanted to know about Jeff – “Is Jeff getting the help he needs,” “Is Jeff going to be returning to the ring,” “What is Jeff thinking?” Matt says Jeff didn’t have a care in the world at that time – everything was business as usual. He locked himself in his studio and recorded songs, painted pictures, and refused to be responsible for his own actions, and like always everyone expected Matt Hardy to come over and pick up the pieces. He looks disgusted.
Matt then mentions that Jeff has suffered a lot of unfortunate accidents. He was attacked in the stairwell, his car was run off the road, and there was the pyro incident. Hardy wonders who could have done this – a group of people, someone holding a grudge, or perhaps just ONE person! There is one day in particular that Matt remembers clearly. Shortly after Jeff’s suspension, Jeff and his girlfriend Beth left their house. While they were gone they received a call by Matt, saying Jeff’s house was on fire! Matt didn’t watch it – he could only picture in his mind Jeff losing everything he’d worked so hard for. All his recordings and art work. Jeff wanted Matt to rescue his dog Jack but Jack didn’t make it. Sometimes accidents turn into tragedies that are incredibly hard to believe!
Matt now pulls out a dog collar, presumably Jack’s. He smells it and looks repulsed. He holds it up to the camera and asks Jeff if he remembers it or what’s left of it. He found it the day after Jeff lost everything in a heap of ashes and he’s been holding on to it for a very long time. He’d decided he’d give it to him when the time was right and the time is now. He wants to give it to him now as a token of his love for his brother Jeff Hardy!
Jeff Hardy now walks out to no music and just gets right in the ring. Jeff circles him a few times before ripping the microphone out of Matt’s hands. Jeff says this is so hard to believe – Matt’s behind everything that’s happened to him! Jeff can’t believe Matt would try to blow him up and he never believed his own flesh and blood could be capable of something so horrible! Jeff tells him not to bring up his house, dog, and everything he loves! Jeff says that Matt wants to hurt him and that he hates him! Matt doesn’t love Jeff – he hates him! Jeff then says, “But you know what, Matthew Moore Hardy? You hate yourself more than you could ever know!” Jeff says Matt is sick, twisted, and demented… and so is he!!
Jeff then spears Matt down and pummels him with right hands!! Matt Hardy rolls out of the ring cowering and pleading his sorrow!! He says he loves Jeff and is sorry!! Jeff is in the ring looking sad and intense!! Matt walks up the ramp looking scared but halfway up he smiles!

Vickie Guerrero and Jeff Hardy Backstage
Jeff Hardy is in her office now and he asks why she wanted to see him. She says she doesn’t have a problem putting him in a Money in the Bank Qualifying Match tonight but she has to ask him one more time – is he sure he won’t face his brother. Jeff quickly says he’s not going to fight his brother. Vickie reminds him that Matt cost Jeff the WWE Championship and begins to say, “If I were you…” but he cuts her off and says she’s not him – she doesn’t even know him and he’s not going to fight Matt. What he is going to do is qualify for Money in the Bank. He’s going to go to WrestleMania, win Money in the Bank, and whoever is left standing between Edge and Big Show, don’t be surprised if he cashes in that night and becomes World Heavyweight Champion!
Money in the Bank Qualifying Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin
Shelton Benjamin’s United States Championship will not be on the line tonight.
The referee calls for the bell and the match begins. They circle the ring before locking up and Benjamin immediately hooks Hardy’s leg and lifts him over his head! That’s the move Chris Benoit used when he accidentally broke Sabu’s neck, giving him the nickname, “The Canadian Crippler.” Benjamin covers for a two count! Benjamin forearms Hardy a few times and hits a Northern Lights Suplex with a bridge for a two count! Hardy’s tongue is busted open already.
Benjamin gets Hardy up and suplexes him. Benjamin floats over into a cover for a two count! Benjamin picks Hardy up and Irish whips him but lowers his head and pays for it with a kick to the face! Hardy comes back with some right hand but has an Irish whip reversed on him! Hardy ducks a clothesline, goes back into the ropes, and goes for a cross-body but Benjamin goes down and Hardy flies out of the ring with a thump!
Benjamin goes outside to retrieve Hardy and forearms him viciously a few times! Benjamin then has a whip into the barricade reversed on him! Hardy sets up the steps and runs, jumping off the stairs with a variation of Poetry in Motion on the outside!! It’s time for a break.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to Hardy chants but he’s not doing much except taking punishment from Benjamin, who has just dug his knee into Hardy’s back and is pulling back on the chin! During the break we see Hardy go for his corner slingshot dropkick but Benjamin quickly caught Hardy midair and powerbombed him into the corner!!
Hardy gets to his feet and punches out. Hardy goes for something but Benjamin quickly hits a unique backbreaker on his knee for a two and a half count! Benjamin picks Hardy up with a traditional backbreaker and stretches Hardy across his knee! The fans chant for Hardy and he eventually punches out but can’t do anything!
Benjamin lays Hardy against the second rope and digs his knee into his back twice! Benjamin backs up and charges but Hardy back body-drops him over the top rope but Benjamin hangs on to the top rope and stays on the apron! Hardy goes to suplex him back in the ring but Benjamin lands on his feet and goes for his neckbreaker but Hardy holds on to the top rope! Hardy then hits a double leg takedown and leg-drops him in the groin area! Hardy then goes into the ropes and hits a low dropkick to the face, covering Benjamin for a two and a half count!!
Jeff Hardy picks Benjamin up and hits his unique neckbreaker but the fans are booing because Matt Hardy is making his way down to the ring! Hardy pins Benjamin for a two and a half count! Jeff sees Matt but tries to ignore him as he bounces Benjamin’s head off the top turnbuckle and hits Whisper in the Wind!! Jeff stares Matt down and hits the Twist of Fate on Shelton Benjamin! Matt Hardy now gets into the ring and stares down his brother face to face. He then turns around and punches Benjamin in the face, costing Jeff Hardy the match!!
Winner by Disqualification: Shelton Benjamin
Jeff stares at his brother in disbelief as Matt Hardy angrily stares back. Matt then symbolically turns his back on his brother and waits for him to attack. When Jeff doesn’t he simply leaves the ring, content at shattering Jeff’s WrestleMania dreams.

The Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy Smackdown Confrontation

Matt Hardy comes to the ring ready for this match. Jeff Hardy comes out in jeans and a flannel shirt. Not quite dressed to compete. Matt looks confused.
Jeff gets a microphone and says Matt has always been there for him and he thinks they’ve always helped each other out. Jeff says he hopes he gets over this crazy phase of his and realizes he’s done nothing to deserve this. Jeff says he’s not going to fight him – not tonight, not ever because whether Matt likes it or not, he is his brother!
Matt quickly grabs the microphone and coldly says that he is not Jeff’s brother. As far as getting over things, it’s not quite that simple. He knows he’s used to everything being about Jeff and revolving around Jeff but this isn’t about Jeff – it’s about him! He says for once it’s about Matt, about his needs, about what he needs to say. All of the fans make him sick – physically sick – when they cheer for Jeff! He’s also had to swallow the fact that his career has been mediocre while Jeff’s has skyrocketed to the top! He says he and Jeff have always known this – between the two of them, Matt is the more talented Hardy! Matt says he blames Jeff and the fans that believe Jeff’s hype!
Matt tells Jeff to fight him and tries to goad him on. He implores Jeff but he says no! Matt then slaps him and calls him a coward! Jeff still won’t so Matt gives him a VICIOUS backhand! Ouch!! Jeff leaves the ring shaking his head and with his cheeks a different shade of red. Jeff gets the fans cheering for him before shaking his head at Matt and going to the back! The fans boo Matt to end this segment.
