Start of the Show
Josh Matthews is in the ring. Matthews mentions that on Raw Smackdown’s General Manager Theodore Long announced a championship match. CM Punk will take on former World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy. Jeff Hardy comes out to a tremendous pop. Todd Grisham correctly calls something, mentioning there are loud ovations and then there are Jeff Hardy ovations.
Jeff Hardy gets in the ring and Matthews mentions that two weeks ago he reached the top again, becoming World Heavyweight Champion again despite those who said he’d never make it there again. They now show clips of the Ladder Match, including the big ladder bump on the outside and the mid-air Twist of Fate. I believe that finish to the ladder match was one of the most creative I’ve seen.
Matthews mentions it must have been an amazing moment and can’t imagine how it must’ve felt to become a World Champion. With that said he can’t imagine how he must have felt when this happened. They now show CM Punk making his way out to the ring to cash in his Money in the Bank contract. Hardy kicks out of one GTS but can’t kick out of a second one and CM Punk becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Matthews now mentions to make things even worse just when it looked like he was going to become World Heavyweight Champion again, this happens. They now show the ending of the match on Raw, where Jeff Hardy looked to have it won with the Swanton Bomb only for Punk to pull him out of the ring and steal the win for himself.
Matthews mentions that it seems like he can’t get a break and that the World Heavyweight Championship seems to elude him. Gee, way to rub it in guy. Hardy mentions it’s cool and he doesn’t live in the past – he lives in and for the moment. At the Bash he has CM Punk one on one and he knows, along with each and every fan, that he will beat CM Punk. Matthews says we’ve heard Jeff’s point of view so it’s only fair we hear his opponent’s. Matthews now introduces World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, who comes out to boos.
CM Punk gets in the ring and Matthews mentions that many people feel that he took advantage of a vulnerable Jeff Hardy at Extreme Rules, and at this past Monday night’s Raw he stole another victory from Jeff Hardy. Punk says the only thing he took advantage of at Extreme Rules was an opportunity to cash in his Money in the Bank contract, which he did successfully and well within the rules. Hardy knows this, as does the fans, that no where in the contract does it say, “Under no circumstances are you to cash in on Jeff Hardy.” As far as “stealing” the match on Monday, he takes offense to that. He’s never stolen anything in his life. He didn’t ask the medical staff to come to ringside; they were just doing their job. Hardy was doing his job, and he did his job by successfully defending the World Heavyweight Championship.
Punk says that Hardy knows this as well as he does – when he’s in the ring he doesn’t need to be a guy’s best friend; he’s their competitor. Hardy says Punk is right, in the ring they’re not friends, and they couldn’t be more different. He lives his life they way he does and Punk lives his they way he does. Punk says that’s right – he lives his life the way he does, and Hardy lives his life the way he… does. Punk stretched that out – I like that! Hardy says their differences will collide at the Bash and he will take back what he earned at Extreme Rules – the World Heavyweight Championship.
Josh Matthews thanks them and asks the audience to give it up for Jeff Hardy, and they pop. Matthews asks them to give it up for CM Punk, and they boo. After the break Jeff Hardy will take on Chris Jericho.
-Commercial Break-
Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho
This is a non-title match. The match starts and they circle the ring before locking up. Jericho quickly gets a headlock on and Hardy just as quickly whips him off but Jericho is able to shoulder block him down. Jericho taunts for a moment before going into the ropes, over Hardy, and right into a dropkick. Hardy whips Jericho into the corner and hits a corner clothesline. Hardy whips him to the opposite corner and hits a clothesline there as well. Hardy goes for his slingshot dropkick but Jericho moves and Hardy hits the mat hard.
Jericho hits a nice suplex on Hardy for a near fall. Jericho gets Hardy up and Hardy hits some punches. Hardy has a whip reversed on him and Jericho slaps on an abdominal stretch. Jericho holds it on for a bit but Hardy eventually counters out with a hip toss. Hardy comes back with a spinning lariat and an inverted atomic drop. Hardy connects with a double leg drop to the midsection and a low dropkick to the face for a two count. Jericho is in the corner and Hardy runs into his boot. Jericho comes out for a clothesline but Hardy ducks it and hits Whisper in the Wind out of nowhere for a near fall.
Hardy goes for a flipping mule kick but Jericho throws him off. Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho but Hardy powers out. Hardy goes for a Twist of Fate but Jericho counters with a back suplex. Jericho goes for a Lionsault but Hardy moves. Hardy hits his sit-out front suplex and goes for the Swanton Bomb but Jericho rolls out of the ring. Hardy is still on the top rope so he flies off to the outside but Jericho side steps him and Hardy smashes his face on the barricade.
Jericho throws Hardy into the barricade a couple of times before throwing him back in the ring. All of a sudden Jericho turns around and Rey Mysterio jumps off the barricade with a hurricanrana and Jericho smashes his face into the ring post! Mysterio goes back and sits with the fans. The ref didn’t see anything as he was tending to Jeff Hardy. The referee begins counting and counts Jericho out!

Jeff Hardy Versus CM Punk at The Bash PPV
At The Bash, the fateful roads of squared-circle passion and championship retribution will collide, as World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk puts his World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Jeff Hardy.
Extreme Rules saw Jeff Hardy prove triumphant over Edge in a career-threatening World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match that propelled both Superstars to heights of grueling insanity, the likes of which neither one had ever experienced before. It was time for celebration, as The Charismatic Enigma had finally overcome all that had stood in his way to stand alone in the glorious splendor of WWE supremacy.
But then, in the blink of an eye, it was all over. Suddenly and without warning, CM Punk brought Hardy hurling back to earth, cashing in his Money in the Bank opportunity on the war-torn Superstar to rip the gold from his waist as quickly as it had been placed there.
The Straightedge Superstar had also overcome unimaginable odds at the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania, beating out seven other Superstars to climb the rungs of the ladder and snatch his second Money in the Bank briefcase. This gave him the right to cash in that opportunity anytime he wished. Some claim that he simply exercised a move of strategic brilliance, picking the moment that the World Champion would be most vulnerable to attack and taking the title.
On Raw’s special three-hour edition 3-For-All, Punk put his title up against both Hardy & Edge in a Triple Threat Match. Hardy looked to once again close-in on victory over The Rated-R Superstar. However, Punk blocked Hardy’s path to glory once again, hurling him away from the win to cover Edge himself and retain the title. This further intensified the tension between the two Superstars and raised as many question as it answered.
At The Bash, a true moment of destiny will be revealed. There will be no ladders or no promises of glory hanging above the ring, only the white-hot intensity of reckless abandon. Two of the most tenacious Superstars in WWE will dish out every bit of their heart, strength and unbridled skill to determine who has the right to possess the gold. And in the end, only one of them will walk out the ultimate conqueror.
Don’t miss your chance to witness The Bash, only on pay-per-view, Sunday, June 28 at 8/7CT.

World Heavyweight Championship
CM Punk v. Edge v. Jeff Hardy
Hardy went right after Punk and tossed him into Edge's groin. Hardy rolled the champion up for a two count before Edge pounced and attempted the same. Punk gained the advantage and went after both men, clotheslining Edge to the floor. Punk launched himself through the ropes and hit a tope onto Edge. As he re-gathered himself Hardy raised the stakes, throwing himself up and over the top rope with a suicida.
Back in the ring Hardy went for a pin fall, but only got a two count. He ate a big boot on the Irish Whip attempt and Punk gained a bit of an advantage. Punk connected with a kick to the body before laying Jeff out with a body slam and dropping an elbow. Punk wrapped Hardy up in a chin lock before Edge came swooping into the ring and had a pair of big boots to dish out to both the champion and the other challenger.
Edge stomped away at Punk's back before smashing his head into the corner buckles. The two duked it out on the top rope briefly before Hardy interrupted and dragged Edge off. Hardy leaped into Edge's place on the second rope. Edge picked up Jeff and went for an electric chair drop, but Punk tried to pick him out of the air with a lariat from the top rope. Punk swooped off but missed by a mile. Jeff almost rolled Edge up but only managed a two count.
****Commercial****
Hardy went into his big spot offense, hitting a double leg drop on both men and attempting a pin fall on Punk. Punk hit a shot to Hardy's chin before tending to Edge on the ring apron. Hardy slid through the bottom rope and snap mared both men. Hardy went to the top rope and looked for a swanton until Edge pushed him off the top rope and crotched him. Edge looked for a spear but Punk hit a huge running power slam for a two count. Hardy went at Punk, trying to prevent Punk from the pin fall. Punk caught him and went for a Go 2 Sleep, only for Hardy to drop out of the hold. Edge came looking for the spear but Punk leap frogged him and Edge smashed into Hardy.
Punk went to the top rope, only for Edge to shove him off the top rope. Punk landed funny on the ring steps and has the trainers down at the ringside area. Hardy hit a big whisper in the wind, only for Punk to barely break it up. Hardy swooped to the outside and went to work on Punk's leg. He intercepted Edge in the ring and hit a twist of fate and connected with a swanton bomb, but Punk dragged him out of the ring yet again, except this time, he slammed him into the ring steps. Punk crawled into the ring and pinned Edge to win the match.

Edge and Hardy Friday Night Match Ended with a Rumble
WWE Smackdown
June 12, 2009
Biloxi, MS
Report by: Mike Tedesco of WrestleView.com
Start of Show
We start the show off with a video highlighting the tremendous World Heavyweight Championship Ladder Match from Extreme Rules. Both men really put it all on the line as there were some really sick bumps. The ending was very favorable with Jeff Hardy winning the title until Mr. Money in the Bank CM Punk cashed in his guaranteed contract. Hardy put up a fight by kicking out of one GTS but a second one was too much and CM Punk pinned him to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Justin Roberts is in the ring and introduces the new World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk. The crowd seems pretty happy seeing him as champion as Punk parades around the ring holding up his championship. Punk grabs a microphone and says he’ll cut right to the chase. He came out here to clear up a few things. Ever since he cashed in his Money in the Bank at Extreme Rules he’s heard some grumblings that say he stole the World Heavyweight Championship from Jeff Hardy but he doesn’t see it that way. Last year when he cashed in on Edge he didn’t see it that way and neither did we. Punk can’t take back what he did, nor does he want to, because he is proud to stand in this ring our World Heavyweight Champion for the second time.
Punk says he earned the right to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase when he put his body on the line at WrestleMania. Punk says last Sunday at Extreme Rules there was an opportunity to become World Heavyweight Champion staring him right in the face and he capitalized on it. That doesn’t make him a bad guy; that’s just the entire purpose of the contract that’s in the briefcase in the first place. Obviously it wasn’t the most popular decision in the world but he’s never done anything in his life just to be popular. He’s always done what’s best for him. Punk says the championship is something he’s worked so very hard to attain. The title is the entire reason he’s a WWE Superstar to begin with. The title means the world to him and he promises to bring respect, honor, and integrity back to it.
CM Punk is now interrupted by Jeff Hardy, who comes out walking a little gingerly. What an amazing performance he gave on Sunday. Even though he’s banged up he’s not showing it – no finger splint or anything. Hardy grabs a mic and takes in the cheers from the crowd before saying he didn’t come out to complain about what Punk did because that’s not his style. He just doesn’t agree that CM Punk earned it, and then asks the crowd if they think he earned it and they say no. Hardy says he won Money in the Bank and earned the right to cash it in whenever he wanted to but he cashed in on the wrong guy.
Punk says Jeff’s angry and he understands that and understands his point of view but asks that he tries to see where he’s coming from. Punk says he didn’t put Hardy in a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules. He did. Hardy chose a Ladder Match for him and Edge at Extreme Rules, and the night he did that a light bulb went off in his head, and he said, “That’s my night.” Regardless of whoever won he made up his mind that he was cashing in that night and it just so happened that Hardy won. Hardy says he doesn’t care about his reasons but he’s sensing selfishness. Hardy asks if he cares about his fans and takes in some “Hardy” cheers and boos for Punk. Hardy says he doesn’t walk the same path as Punk, and he never will, but he wants his rematch, and he wants it TONIGHT!
Edge’s music hits and he comes out looking wild. Edge says Hardy isn’t getting his rematch tonight. If anyone is, it’s him. Hardy asks if he’s lost it – he beat him and won the Ladder Match. Hardy now asks why he’s even out here. This isn’t about Edge – it’s about him and Punk. Punk says for once they’re in agreement and tells Edge to “beat it.” Edge says no and says Hardy got lucky at Extreme Rules, and both of them combined have not held that title as much as him. Facts! Hardy had the shortest World Heavyweight Championship reign in the history of the company but at least he’s his own man. But Edge has been trying to figure out what makes Punk tick ever since he got here, who he looks up to, and he figured it out – Punk wants to be Edge! Edge tells him to laugh all he wants but its true. Edge mentions that Punk calls his unique lifestyle “straight-EDGE” – HELLO! Punk named it after him. Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank successfully TWICE, just like him. But here’s a news flash – he never has been, and never will be, him.
Edge gives another news flash – if Hardy wants another title shot, he’s got to get behind him, because if anyone’s getting a title match tonight it’s going to be him. Hardy says that’s not going to happen because they’re both full of – and Hardy attacks Edge before he finishes that statement and knocks him out of the ring. Hardy then turns on Punk and drops him with a Twist of Fate! Hardy then quickly gets to the top rope and hits a Swanton Bomb on the World Heavyweight Champion! Hardy seems to have hurt himself a little bit with the Swanton but still gets on the turnbuckle to pose for the crowd.
Teddy Long’s music hits and Smackdown’s General Manager makes his first appearance on the show in a few weeks. Teddy Long wants to see if he can sort this out. CM Punk is the champion so his first defense will be at the WWE 3-For-All, and he will go on to face the winner of tonight’s #1 Contender’s Match between Edge and Jeff Hardy! Long’s music hits and the segment ends.
#1 Contenders Match for the WHC
Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
Mike Chioda calls for the bell and the contest begins. This is beginning with about twenty-five minutes left in the show. This should be good. They lock up and push each other away and both men hobble on one leg back to their corners. They go to lock up but Edge goes for a single leg but Hardy is able to club him off. Hardy bounces Edge’s head off the top turnbuckle and kicks him a few times. Hardy brings him to the other corner and bounces his head off the turnbuckle again before whipping him hard into the opposite corner. Hardy stomps Edge a few times before picking him up and hitting a body slam. Hardy drops a knee on his back and a forearm for a one count.
Hardy goes for a suplex but Edge knees him in the midsection before elbowing him in the back of the neck. Edge kicks him in the ribs and takes some time before hitting some more forearms. They’re taking this very slow so far, selling the injuries. I like it! Edge chokes Hardy on the top rope and releases it before he’s disqualified. Edge stomps Hardy a few more times before whipping him into the corner. Edge charges for a corner Spear but Hardy moves and Edge hits the ring post shoulder first. Edge falls to the outside of the ring and this match will continue after the break.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to see Hardy covering Edge for a one count. Hardy wrenches the arm, takes Edge down, and locks on a cross-arm breaker. During the break Hardy snapped Edge’s arm off the top rope and then put him into a hammerlock and threw him into the barricade. Hardy holds the submission on for a while before breaking the hold and dropping a knee on his arm. Hardy gets Edge in the corner, wraps his arm around the top rope, and pulls for a few seconds and releases before he gets disqualified.
Hardy has a whip into the ropes reversed on him and Edge drops him with a big boot. Edge takes a lot of time to get up before picking Hardy up and bouncing his head off the turnbuckle. Edge now drops some knees on Hardy’s back and taunts the crowd. Edge goes to pick Hardy up but Hardy holds on to the ropes so Edge chokes him on the middle rope. Edge now goes into the ropes and goes for a cross-body with Hardy on the ropes but Hardy moves and Edge hits the ropes hard.
Both men are down but are able to make it up at the count of four. Hardy kicks Edge in the midsection and goes for his sit-out front suplex but his body is in too much pain and Edge capitalizes with a chop block to the injured knee. Edge drops an elbow on the knee. Edge then drops a knee on it and locks on a leg lock. Edge punches the knee a few times. Hardy is able to punch out of this one. Edge has a whip reversed on him and Hardy pulls him into a flying neckbreaker. Hardy now takes Edge down with a flying forearm but can’t get back to him quick enough. Edge kicks him in the knee but has a turnbuckle shot blocked. Hardy elbows him in the face and goes for Whisper in the Wind but he’s too slow climbing up the ropes and Edge is able to sweep his legs. Hardy is now hung in the Tree of Woe. Hardy falls out of it and we’ll finish this match after the final commercial break.
-Commercial Break-
We come back from the break to see Edge stomping on Hardy’s injured knee. Edge tries to pull him towards the corner but Hardy holds the ropes. Edge eventually gets him and drags him to the ring post. Edge goes to the outside and slams Hardy’s injured knee off the ring post. Edge throws Hardy back in at the five count and covers for a near fall. Edge drops an elbow on Hardy’s knee and locks on a leg lock. Hardy attempts to counter with a chin lock but Edge elbows him off. Edge gets up and attempts to hyper-extend the knee now but pulling on it. Hardy finally catches a break as Edge goes for a Figure Four but Hardy kicks him out of the ring.
Edge quickly goes to the top rope and comes off into a boot in the midsection. Hardy hits a nice DDT for a near fall. Both men now charge one another and we get a double clothesline. Both men are able to answer at a count of five and Hardy drops Edge with a Russian Leg Sweep before connecting with his compactor pin for a near fall. Hardy hits a body slam and rips his shirt off. Hardy gets to the second rope and hits a Hardy Leg Drop for a very close near fall.
Hardy hits an inverted atomic drop and goes for a double leg drop to the midsection but Edge blocks it and locks Hardy in the Sharpshooter! Punk on commentary just dropped a comment about Umaga, saying what a grueling match it was. Hardy fights to the ropes and gets a rope break. Hardy gets to the apron and shoulders Edge in the midsection. Hardy executes a sunset flip for a near fall. Hardy now goes for the Twist of Fate but Edge pushes him off into the corner. Edge goes for a Spear in the corner but Hardy moves and Edge hits the ring post again. Hardy rolls Edge up for a very close near fall.
Hardy finally hits Edge with the Twist of Fate and is making his way to the top rope! Hardy slowly gets there but Edge is able to roll out of the ring. Hardy goes to the apron and jumps off with a cross-body on Edge on the outside! Both men get up and Edge throws Hardy across the announcer’s table into CM Punk’s lap! Edge gets in the ring and Punk follows him, beating him down, causing a disqualification!
Winner by Disqualification: Edge
Hardy can’t believe that he lost this match so he quickly gets in the ring and attacks CM Punk. Edge now starts attacking Hardy. Edge goes for the Edgecution but Hardy blocks it and hits the Twist of Fate. Hardy now walks right into CM Punk’s GTS and Punk stands tall as the crowd boos him! JR mentions this may not be a popular decision by Punk but it’s the only decision since he was attacked.
Backstage, Teddy Long is watching the ending with ECW General Manager Tiffany. Tiffany says that was exciting and Long says if she thinks that’s exciting, at Raw’s 3-For-All, and Tiffany cuts him off saying Tommy Dreamer vs. Christian for the ECW Title. Long says he’ll do one better – Edge vs. Jeff Hardy vs. CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship. Tiffany say that does sound exciting and we end the show with CM Punk standing tall with his championship.

WWE Smackdown
June 5, 2009
Memphis, TN
Report by: Mike Tedesco of WrestleView.com
Start of the Show
The World Heavyweight Champion is hanging above the ring and ladders are set up all around the ring and the ringside area. There’s a ton of ladder, at least twenty, in the ring and surrounding it as well as going up the ramp. There’s even a ladder on top of the announcer’s table. It’s a sight to behold as this is a special edition of the Cutting Edge. We’re now joined by our host, the World Heavyweight Champion Edge, who is greeted none too warmly by the crowd.
Edge gets in the ring and looks very solemn as he welcomes us to this very special Cutting Edge, with the focus being on his Ladder Match at Extreme Rules. He now introduces his opponent Jeff Hardy, who comes out to a tremendous applause. Hardy goes under the ladders as he greets the fans.
Jeff Hardy gets in the ring and soaks up the fan’s reaction and says if Edge wants to speak with him he’ll be right up on top of a ladder. Hardy gets on top of a ladder and his head is right next to the title. Hardy says he’s always comfortable in his own skin and right now he’s extremely comfortable with his surroundings right now, and at Extreme Rules he’ll be right here, sitting on a ladder, right at home, comfortable as a NEW World Heavyweight Champion.
Edge, while still on the ground, says nothing makes him more content than looking across a ring, or up a ladder, at an opponent who has false bravado, who panders to all the “sheep.” Edge says what Hardy failed to mention was just how dangerous the match is going to be. He and Hardy are going to do terrible things but everyone knows that. Edge says that every time Hardy goes to climb the ladder on Sunday he’ll be there to knock him back down. Edge climbs the ladder up a couple of rungs a few times and demonstrates bringing him back down. Edge finally says after he knocks Hardy down for the very last time, he’ll climb the ladder and grab his World Heavyweight Championship, and Edge climbs to the top of the ladder, sitting face to face with Hardy. This is awesome.
Edge says when it comes to him and Hardy, no matter what match, it’s always the same ending – and Hardy cuts him off saying “Blah, blah, blah!” Hardy says he can keep talking about how good he is but he doesn’t care. The fact is, this Sunday he’s going to make history. This is a ladder match people will be talking about until the end of time, even after he and Edge are gone. Some people say he’s already gone, being reckless at times, but he’s done what he’s done, he is who he is, and he can safely say he’s proud of who and what he is right now. At Extreme Rules, living for the moment will not be his downfall – it will be his salvation.
Edge says that’s good, because this Sunday he’s going to need that salvation. Edge now bangs the World Heavyweight Championship against Hardy’s temple twice and knocks the ladder over! Hardy hits the ropes ribs first and goes right over the top rope to the floor! That had to hurt! Edge now walks up the ramp holding the World Heavyweight Championship over his head. Tremendous segment!
After Edge's Win against Rey Mysterio
Edge holds his World Heavyweight Championship above his head as we see replays of the ending. Edge now searches under the ring and pulls out a ladder. Edge waits for Mysterio to get up but Jeff Hardy runs down with a steel chair and uses it to smack the ladder back in Edge’s face! Jeff Hardy now hits a Twist of Fate on the ladder and sets it up! Hardy now goes to the top rope and leap frogs over with a HUGE leg drop onto Edge! Jeff Hardy grabs the World Heavyweight Championship and holds it over his head to close the show!

Jeff Hardy Loses Handicap Match Against Y2J and Edge
WWE Smackdown
May 29, 2009
Los Angeles, CA
Report by: Mike Tedesco of WrestleView.com
Before the Main Event Match
Edge gets in the ring and grabs a microphone. Edge says if he can pick two words that describe and define Jeff Hardy it’s wasted opportunities. Last week Jeff Hardy had the break of a lifetime to pick any match at Extreme Rules so he picks a match that Edge owns. He picked a match that he has more success with than anyone in the WWE – a Ladder Match. Edge says he heard Jeff talking before and they have been in more Ladder Matches than anyone else. The difference between them is Jeff always impresses and shines, making the highlight reel, but he always wins. That’s actually true. Edge says we may not like it because we know it’s true. The difference between this Ladder Match and the past are they were Tag Team and Money in the Bank Ladder Matches but this is their first ever one on one Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship. The other difference between he and Jeff is Jeff is a loser and he’s a winner. Jeff is a man who wastes his opportunities and he’s an Ultimate Opportunist. Jeff’s a perennial challenger and he’ll walk out of Extreme Rules STILL the World Heavyweight Champion.
Chris Jericho’s music hits but he doesn’t come out. I guess he really isn’t coming out. Rey Mysterio’s music now hits and he makes his way out to the ring. On the way he bumps heads with some of his child fans but the last one grabs Mysterio and smashes his head on the steel barricade! The fan comes over and assaults Mysterio some more, unmasking to reveal he’s Chris Jericho! Jericho sends him into the barricade and body slams him on the concrete floor! Jericho punches some more before attempting to remove Mysterio’s mask! Jeff Hardy runs down and makes the save, fighting Jericho off! Officials come to check on Mysterio as we go to commercial.
-Commercial Break-
We come back and see some replays of Jericho’s beat down on Rey Mysterio. That was really brilliant – I loved it. Justin Roberts announces that Jeff Hardy has agreed to go on with the bout as a two on one handicap match!

Jeff Defeats Edge and Chooses a Ladder Match at Extreme Rules

Report by: Mike Tedesco of WrestleView.com
A video recap of the Judgment Day Main Event is shown. We see highlights of the match, which was great until Matt Hardy interfered with his cast. Edge delivers an Edgecution to Jeff Hardy off the top rope and Edge retains the title.
The Smackdown video plays and we’re brought into the arena with a great pyrotechnics display. Jim Ross and Todd Grisham welcome us to the show. Tonight we’ll see a rematch from Superstars with CM Punk taking on Chris Jericho, who he defeated last night.
Justin Roberts is in the ring and asks us to welcome the World Heavyweight Champion Edge. Edge comes out to a less than enthusiastic response. Edge grabs a microphone and says if there was ever any doubt as to who the face of Smackdown, then lets end the debate now. Edge says he doesn’t want to hear any other Superstar coming out and declaring himself the face of the show. Judgment Day has come and gone, and he is still the face of this brand. Edge says that Chris Jericho lost to Rey Mysterio, CM Punk lost to Umaga, and he embarrassed and defeated Jeff Hardy, which means he’s still our World Heavyweight Champion. Edge says to make no mistake about it – he is the premier superstar in the WWE today. The crowd is chanting for Jeff Hardy but Edge says that he’s not even in Edge’s league. He is a winner. Edge says Jeff Hardy is just like his legions of fans – the people who believe in him and chant his name. He’s just like all of them – a loser.
Teddy Long’s music hits and he makes his way out to the ring. Long says what he witnessed at Judgment Day was an atrocity. Long says he believes the referee’s decision is final but as the General Manager of this show he cannot deny that Matt Hardy illegally interfered in a World Heavyweight Championship match. Therefore, at Extreme Rules, he is going to grant a rematch to Jeff Hardy!
Edge is angry and says he beat Jeff. You can say that he lost because he got hit in the head with a cast but that’s just an excuse. He’s tired of everyone giving excuses for him because the fact is he ran up against a man who has more will, heart, and determination and who is willing to pull out all the stops. Edge says he went back into the vault, the millions of moves he’s mastered over the years, and he pulled out his top rope Edgecution, and that’s how Jeff Hardy got beat. Jeff Hardy is not World Heavyweight Championship material. Jeff Hardy is a failure.
Jeff Hardy’s music hits and he makes his way out to the ring to a great reaction. Hardy stops outside the ring and says Edge is right. He’s a loser, a failure, a screw-up, a let down, pathetic, and reckless. But above and beyond all of that, deep down, Jeff Hardy is a competitor. He also knows that at Extreme Rules, every match is extreme. Hardy says they should get crazy – they should have a match tonight and whoever wins gets to decide what type of extreme match they will have.
Edge says that Hardy can’t come out and make his own match and pleads to Teddy Long. Hardy says for Long to correct him if he’s wrong but he said last week this show belongs to the WWE Universe so lets hear what Cincinnati has to say. Hardy gets in the crowd and asks a bunch of people if they want to see Hardy vs. Edge tonight and they all say yes. Hardy then asks the entire crowd and they scream yes. Hardy says Cincinnati has spoken and Teddy Long makes the match happen for tonight. Edge is not happy as Jeff Hardy and the crowd celebrates.
Main Event Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Edge
This is not a World Heavyweight Championship match. If you’re just starting to read here, this match is to determine who will choose the stipulation for their title match at Extreme Rules. They’re playing up that Hardy may have been concussed at Judgment Day.
Mike Chioda calls for the bell and this match begins. They’re at opposite sides of the ring and take a bit of time before locking up. Edge forces Hardy to the corner and punches him. Hardy gets around him and rolls him up for a no count and Edge quickly crawls away. They separate and lock up. Edge gets a headlock but Hardy slides out and rolls Edge up for a one count. They take some more time before locking up again and Edge goes for a test of strength but tricks Hardy by kicking him. Edge goes for a body slam but Hardy slides off and rolls him up for a one count and Edge gets out of the ring frustrated.
Edge grabs Hardy’s leg and pulls him down. Edge goes for an elbow drop but Hardy moves. Hardy gets a headlock on and executes a takeover. Hardy tries pinning Edge’s shoulders and gets a one count. Edge fights up and goes for a back suplex but Hardy counters into another takeover. Edge fights up to his feet and punches Hardy in the knee. Edge punches Hardy in the head and Hardy is staggered. Edge has a whip into the corner reversed on him and he hits the corner sternum first. Hardy splashes him in the corner and bounces Edge’s head off the top turnbuckle about ten times and hits a slingshot dropkick to Edge, but this hurts Hardy more because of his bruised brain. Edge looks astonished that Hardy is able to stand and hits a running big boot to the skull. JR wonders if Hardy can beat Edge as we go to commercial.

Edge goes for the Edgecution but Hardy twists out and hits the Twist of Fate! Hardy struggles to the top rope and Edge cuts him off. Edge goes up top for a top rope Edgecution, much like Judgment Day, but Hardy punches him off! Hardy hits a beautiful Swanton Bomb for the huge win!
Winner by Pinfall: Jeff Hardy
Charles Robinson raises Jeff Hardy’s arm and he looks like he’s been through a war. We see replays of all the big head shots Hardy took in this match but he still came out on top. Todd Grisham gets in the ring and congratulates him on a fantastic win. Grisham now asks what type of match we’ll see in New Orleans at Extreme Rules. Hardy says at Extreme Rules he will not be painting, cleaning gutters, or changing bulbs but what he will be doing is climbing a LADDER to become the World Heavyweight Champion! It’s official – at Extreme Rules it’ll be Jeff Hardy vs. Edge in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship! Edge clutches his championship as Smackdown ends!
